“The Spirit of the

Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me

To preach good tidings

to the poor,

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

To comfort all who mourn,
To console those

who mourn in Zion,
To give them

beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy

for mourning,
The garment of praise

for the spirit of heaviness;

In our churches, we are sitting in pews, in Bible studies, standing at the door, standing in the pulpit…

and often we are hiding…

hiding behind our fig leaves…our smiles, our words, our busyness, our ministries.

Not all of us, but some of us, maybe more than we realize.

We struggle, we have areas of our lives where we are wounded, our ability to cope has been overwhelmed, we wrestle with fear, emotional pain, compulsive behaviors, patterns that we can’t seem to escape.

As we hide in plain sight, the brokenness of our hearts, does not escape the awareness of the Anointed One, Jesus.  He is the Wounded Healer in the midst of us, with the power to heal and liberate, on whom rests the Spirit of counsel and might, wisdom and understanding (Isaiah 11:2)

What would it look like to shift the culture of the Christian community?  For the church to become the safe place to go when we are struggling, not pretending things are better than they are but naming those things, telling our stories, learning to apply grace and truth with love over time, to find helpful tools and resources to give support and strength for the journey?

It is the vision of LifeRiver Christian Recovery to contribute to repairing the breach that can often exist between the practice of Christian principles and experiencing the healing power of Jesus in our deepest places of woundedness.  Through Blog topics, Resource Corner, The Toolbox, BibleConnection, and Healing Circle Groups (Trauma Healing Institute/ABS), LifeRiver CR seeks to support recovery and transformation in the body of Christ.
